Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on his supporters, residents of the state, and Nigerians at large to express gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his timely intervention in resolving the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Speaking in Port Harcourt during a meeting with leaders and stakeholders of the Simplified Movement, Governor Fubara highlighted the President’s crucial role in preventing a potential breakdown of law and order. The meeting formed part of activities marking his second year in office.
According to Fubara, President Tinubu’s prompt and wise action played a vital role in averting what could have become a full-blown political crisis. He emphasized that the peace process is already underway, and efforts are being made to restore harmony across all arms of government in the state.
“We are already in the peace process. I want you to thank Mr President for his timely intervention to salvage the situation and stabilize the polity and the state. If not for Mr President, the story today would have been different,” Fubara said.
The Governor further acknowledged that despite the turbulent political climate, his administration remains focused on governance and is committed to ensuring the return of democratic processes and cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of the state government.
Fubara assured stakeholders that his government would soon bounce back stronger and more united. He said the challenges facing the administration were temporary and pledged that Rivers State would experience renewed stability and development.
“The issues will soon be resolved, and you will return to your offices, not just in the Executive arm, but also in the Legislative arm. I believe the strong relationships we had before will return, and we will begin to work together again for the good and progress of the state,” he added.
While reflecting on his administration’s two-year milestone, Fubara expressed regret that the political crisis had overshadowed opportunities to highlight key achievements in critical sectors. However, he maintained that his government remains committed to delivering the dividends of democracy.
He called on all stakeholders to embrace peace and put the state’s interest above personal ambitions. Fubara emphasized the need for forgiveness and unity, urging everyone to support the ongoing reconciliation efforts.
“We have to come down from our high horses and subject ourselves to the peace process. What is important is for the state to move forward. It is not about you; the interest of the state is paramount.”
Governor Fubara concluded by expressing his personal gratitude to President Tinubu and other respected leaders across Nigeria who played significant roles in ensuring that peace returns to Rivers State.
