There’s growing outrage in Ondo State and beyond following disturbing revelations about the APC State Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, who is alleged to have repeatedly called for a military takeover of Nigeria’s democratic government.
It started in 2022, right after the APC presidential primaries. Adetimehin, a staunch supporter of former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, had mobilized a team of Fayemi loyalists from Ondo state to Abuja in a bid to push his candidate through.
But when things didn’t go as planned and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerged as the party’s candidate, Adetimehin reportedly came back to Ondo fuming — and told his followers he wished the military would take over the country.
That wasn’t a one-time slip. Sources say he’s repeated this statement several times in closed-door meetings with his loyalists. These dangerous anti-democratic remarks continued even up until the moment he was suspended by his ward executives, with that specific allegation forming part of the reasons for his suspension.
That’s not all — during the primaries, Adetimehin was accused of hiding Ondo State delegates in a popular Abuja hotel, allegedly to block them from voting for Tinubu. Tinubu’s loyalists eventually discovered and exposed the scheme.
Now, party members and Nigerians at large are calling for accountability. Many believe Adetimehin’s statements are unconstitutional, reckless, and capable of undermining Nigeria’s democracy. The national APC leadership is being urged to take immediate action before such sentiments spread further.
So far, the Ondo APC chairman has not publicly denied or addressed these serious allegations.
In a time when democracy must be protected at all costs, calls for military rule — especially from a party leader — must not be taken lightly.
