President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially conferred the prestigious national honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) on renowned American philanthropist and billionaire, Bill Gates. The co-founder of Microsoft and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation received the award in recognition of his long-standing commitment to global health, education, and poverty reduction—efforts that have significantly impacted Nigeria and other developing nations.
During his visit to Lagos, Gates met with President Tinubu and Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote. His trip is focused on strengthening collaborations with Nigerian leaders to improve primary healthcare delivery across the country.
According to a statement from the Gates Foundation, Gates will also attend the Goalkeepers Nigeria event, highlighting Africa’s role in global innovation. He is expected to meet with scientists and partners advancing Nigeria’s artificial intelligence strategy and scaling up essential health solutions.
Before visiting Nigeria, Gates met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to discuss reforms and development resilience across Africa.
