In a bold move toward reviving grassroots sports and empowering local talents, the Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, Hon. Andrew Ogunsakin, has received in audience the delegates of the Okitipupa Local Government Football Council.
The team, led by Coach Babatunde Igbasan, paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman as part of their efforts to foster stronger synergy with the local administration.
During the meeting, Hon. Ogunsakin bemoaned the poor state of football and general sporting activities in the local government area, citing the near-total absence of functional facilities and the dilapidated condition of existing pitches.
He described the situation as worrisome, given the vast reservoir of youthful talent in Okitipupa that remains untapped due to infrastructural neglect.
The Chairman, however, assured the council of his administration’s unwavering commitment to sports development. He emphasized the role of sports in youth empowerment, crime reduction, and social cohesion, promising strategic support towards talent discovery, infrastructure improvement, and organized sporting events.
“Our administration understands the importance of sports in shaping a better future for our youth. We will work hand-in-hand with relevant bodies to restore the sporting glory of Okitipupa,” Hon. Ogunsakin said.
The delegation included notable figures in the football and refereeing communities.
Alongside the chairman of the council were Mr. M. I. Ogunmola, Vice Chairman, Okitipupa Local Government Football Council; Prince Goke Egharegbemi, Acting Chairman, Nigeria Referee Association, Okitipupa Society; Mr. A. Famakinwa, Secretary, Nigeria Referee Association, Okitipupa Society; Thespian Ibukunoluwa Obateru, Media Officer, Okitipupa Local Government Football Council
The visit ended on a hopeful note, with both parties pledging collaboration towards revitalizing sports in Okitipupa and creating platforms for young talents to thrive.
