In a swift and proactive response to a recent landslide incident, the Special Assistant to the Governor of Ondo State on Emergency Response, Hon. (Prince) Oriade Wellington Adebawo, alongside a delegation of the Ondo State Emergency Management Agency (ODSEMA) visited Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area, for an on-the-spot assessment of the affected site on Monday August 4, 2025.
The landslide, believed to have been triggered by days of relentless rainfall, devastated a substantial portion of the area, posing grave risks to commuters, local residents, and surrounding infrastructure.

During the inspection tour, the team observed severe soil erosion, visible ground fissures, and sections of the access road that had partially collapsed. According to eyewitness accounts, two motorcycle riders reportedly sustained injuries, underscoring the imminent danger the site continues to pose.

Addressing the press at the scene, Hon. Adebawo reaffirmed the Ayedatiwa-led administration’s unwavering commitment to public safety. He noted that the newly appointed Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ayorinde Olawoye, has already been briefed and would soon dispatch a team of environmental and geotechnical experts to conduct a comprehensive site evaluation.
He also appreciated the efforts of ODSEMA under the leadership of the Deputy Governor of the State, Dr. Olayide Adelami, mni, in facilitating swift response to emergencies in the State.
“We cannot afford to wait for further tragedy. The protection of lives and property is a top priority for this administration. Immediate intervention is not just necessary, it is non-negotiable,” Hon. Adebawo stated.
Key recommendations from the field visit include the urgent creation of alternative routes, public sensitization campaigns, and the design and construction of a robust drainage system to prevent future occurrences.

Local residents, visibly relieved by the prompt government presence, lauded the swift intervention and called for accelerated remedial action, noting that the affected area serves as a vital artery for trade, movement, and daily activities in Ore and beyond.
